Excellent season for Turkish apricots

Mut, in the province of Mersin, produces 85% of Turkey' apricots. The season begins mid-April with an early variety to last about 3 months. The varieties produced are mainly Al, Precoce of Thriyinthe, Septik, İtalyan tokalı, Tokaloğlu, Bebeko, Karacabey, Ninfa, Mogador, Şekerpare and Çağataybey.
Producers are very satisfied with this season, during which around 100,000 tons were harvested and sold at profitable prices. Half of this crop was exported. The main importing countries are Russia, Iraq, European countries and the Middle East.
The President of the Brokers Association of Fresh Fruit and Vegetable of Mut said that this year the demand of the domestic and international market was excellent and that the apricot of Mut, by its organoleptic qualities but also by its resistance to storage was becoming a brand.
Producers have acquired a know-how that enables them to meet the quality standards demanded by consumers all over the world.
By 2016, 90 000 tons of apricots had been harvested and 35 000 tons were exported.
