A TikTok and Facebook event in August attracted tens of thousands of viewers.
Selling fruit through live-streaming is no longer just a trend in Vietnam — it is becoming a powerful tool for farmers. In Ea Knuếc Commune, Đắk Lắk Province, a TikTok and Facebook session on August 24 drew tens of thousands of viewers and sold more than 60 tonnes of Dona durians in just two hours.
The event, called “Selling Durians with the Villagers”, highlighted not only the fruit’s golden flesh and sweet flavour but also the stories of local growers and the culture of the community. Officials stressed that the real achievement went beyond sales: farmers were encouraged to become “digital citizens,” using e-commerce to promote their crops and heritage.
The live-stream also attracted VNĐ3.8 billion (US$149,000) in donations to support digital transformation, farming upgrades, and welfare projects. With nearly 6,000 hectares of durian plantations expected to produce 60,000 tonnes by 2025, Ea Knuếc is positioning itself to build a sustainable durian ecosystem that links agriculture with the digital economy.
