China and Chile signed export agreements last December. The 1st export of Chinese kiwis has just been sent to Chile.
A company based in Meixian County, Shaanxi Province, shipped 40 tonnes of kiwi fruit for export to Santiago, Chile.
Located at the bottom of the Qinling Mountains, Meixian County is one of the most successful areas in China for growing kiwis. The county is nicknamed the “birthplace of the Chinese kiwi”. Around 20,000 hectares of kiwis are cultivated there. The annual output value has exceeded 3 billion yuan ($441 million) in the past 5 years.
This 1st shipment of Chinese kiwis is expected to arrive at the Chilean port of San Antonio around November 5. With the productions in the 2 countries which complement each other, March to October in Chile, August to May in China, Chinese professionals believe that exports to Chile are an excellent opportunity.
