19 % of tomatoes surfaces cultivated in Spain are in Almeria

Almeria tomatoes are ready for exports.
Cajamar foundation presented a report "Fruit and vegetables in Spain " which analyses sector data.
The publication gives analyzes on production, data of surfaces, details on imports and exports, on target markets and on distribution chains.
Almeria's province represent less than 13,2 % of the total surface cultivated in vegetables, Murcia is in 2nd rank with 13,3 %.
For tomatoes production, Almeria has 19 % of the surface cultivated in Spain, which is one fifth of the total.
Melon and lettuce represent respectively 13,2 % and 19,1 % of surfaces.
According to 2008 data, the biggest producers of fruits and vegetables in Spain are:
- Almeria CASI (turnover 189 000 000 €)
- Agroiris ( 113 )
- Primaflor ( 103 )
- Costa de Almeria ( 83 )
- Vicasol ( 80 ).
