MLK
President of the Agricultural Engineers Union of Turkey, Mr. Semsi Bayraktar, said that many areas of fruit trees had been affected by frost due to early flowering a month. The damage, however, vary from one province to another. He added that the unusually mild weather for November, December and February followed by cold waves in March, are the cause of these losses.
The damage for most regions and products most affected are hazelnuts, apricots, walnuts, almonds, peaches, nectarines, grapes, cherries, pears, plums and kiwis. The regions is as follows: Giresun, Ordu, Trabzon, Bursa, Malatya, Manisa, Denizli, Mersin, Diyarbakir, Hatay, Kahramanmaras, Karaman, Kayseri, Mardin, Nigde, Sanliurfa, Ankara, Eskisehir, Nevsehir, Konya, Afyonkarahisar, Antalya, Burdur, Isparta, Bilecik, Yalova, Tokat, Amasya, Igdir, Elazig, Aydin, Balikesir, Canakkale, Izmir, Usak, Edirne.
It is of course very difficult to predict what proportion of this freeze will affect production in April because it could be that there is again a cold snap. But there is already talk of lower productivity of trees.
