New award for the Cosmic Crisp® apple
The Cosmic Crisp® brand apple wins a Healthy Snack Award from Good Housekeeping Institute, for the second year in a row.
The 2021 Healthy Snack Award testers gave “top marks for a crisp bite and a refreshing taste.” in the latest issue of Good Housekeeping Magazine. They also said that the Cosmic Crisp® brand apple is juicy and firm, and noted that the apples are naturally slow to brown, making them perfect for snacking.
Kathryn Grandy, Chief Marketing Officer for Proprietary Variety Management, commercialization company which markets the Cosmic Crisp® apple, said the snack category is rapidly developing and it is important that fresh fruit remain at the top of every shopper’s list.
Washington State farmers shipped more than 1.5 million boxes of the Cosmic Crisp® apples across the US from the 2020 harvest.
The Cosmic Crisp® Fall harvest is projected to be more than 5 million apples. This year, the Cosmic Crisp® will be available in stores in time for the Thanksgiving holiday. Besides, this summer, the brand has a hot air balloon on a national tour, and activities lined up for the Fall harvest and holiday season.
The Cosmic Crisp® brand apple is the result of 20 years of research and study by Washington State University’s tree fruit breeding program. Classically bred and cultivated in Washington State, the Cosmic Crisp® is a cross of the Honeycrisp and Enterprise varieties. The juicy, large, and red apple has a balanced flavor and firm texture. It is perfect for cooking, baking, snacking, and entertaining.
