The three-year arrangement on port tariff increases extends by one year
The Port of Rotterdam Authority and the relevant market parties, represented by Deltalinqs (the Association, which promotes common interests of over 95% of all logistic, ports and industrial enterprises in this Port) and VRC (The Association of Register Controllers) are extending their three-year agreement to increase port tariffs by one year.
Port tariffs for both sea-going shipping and inland shipping will increase by 1% in 2021, as it has been the case from 2018 to 2020. The parties are intend to continuing the same moderate rate of tariff increases. During these extraordinary times, the Port Authority also upholds certain measures, such as discounts on containers transshipment, which were included in the existing three-year agreement.
The parties have fixed rules for setting annual rate of port dues. The sector is meeting the government's desire to regulate tariffs on its own. This is due to structured market consultation. Besides other things, inflation, economic development and market conditions are taken into account. The tariffs apply to the seaports of Rotterdam, Vlaardingen, Maassluis, Schiedam, Zwijndrecht, Papendrecht, Moerdijk and Dordrecht.
Next year, The Port Authority, Deltalinqs and VRC are planning to enter negotiations on a new fixation of tariff increase rate for the years after 2021, which will clarify the market.
Port dues are one of the two primary sources of income for the Port Authority of Rotterdam. In 2019, the Port Authority received €14.1 million in inland port dues and € 290.2 million in seaport dues. Renting and long-term leasing of sites are the main source of income for the Port Authority.
