Pineapple harvest kicks off in Veracruz

Mexico is the ninth pineapple producer in the world. Pineapple production in this country takes place throughout the year, with June and August being the peak months, when 33.7% of the national total is produced, about 350,000 tons.
In 2020, its production totaled 1,209,000 tons (+16.2% compared to the previous year), according to data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (Sader).
Veracruz is considered the leading region in pineapple activity in the country, with an average anual production of 634,227 tons. The main producing municipalities are Isla and Ciudad Alemán, but also other municipalities such as Medellín. In Veracruz and Medellín de Bravo, in the town of La Laguna, the harvest has already begun and the first shipments of the fruit are made.
The main destination for Mexican pineapples is the United States, with annual sales of nearly $30,602,000. Other markets: South Korea, Canada, France, Italy, Russia, Spain, the Netherlands, Japan, the United Arab Emirates and Panama.
