In Guatemala, banana exports rose in the first quarter of 2019 by 14.7%.
According to Banguat (Banco de Guatemala) data, banana exports increased by 14.7% compared to the first quarter of 2018 to reach $215.8 million in March 2019.
Last year, banana exports totaled $803.8 million. Of this total, shipments to the United States yielded $709.9 million and $67.7 million for the EU.
For APIB (Asociación de Productores Independiente de Banano) banana prices have stagnated in recent years and competition remains strong in the international markets. This year, if no weather problem occurs, the growth will be equivalent to that of 2018.
