Felix Instruments presents the new and enhanced F-751 Kiwifruit Quality Meter
On Wednesday, July 7th at 2:00 PM PST, Felix Instruments, the ag-tech instrument developer, will host a webinar in English which will include a live demonstration of the Kiwifruit Quality Meter on Hayward & Gold3 kiwifruit varieties. The scientists will also examine the next topics:
- how near-infrared spectroscopy accuracy compares to lab results;
- which cultivars can be measured;
- how orchards and distribution centers can apply maturity assessment to their processes;
- how this technology can be used to calibrate in-line analyzers

About F-751 Kiwifruit Quality Meter
The new and enhanced F-751 Kiwifruit Quality Meter enables kiwifruit growers and packers to estimate the dry matter and Brix in an accurate and non-destructive way, to indicate quality and ripeness utilizing near-infrared (NIR) technology.
In recent trials, in partnership with Start-A-Fresh ltd the Kiwifruit Quality Meter has shown effectiveness with Hayward, Gold and Red kiwifruit varieties.
Users can quickly and efficiently spot check quality of the fruit with an F-751, monitoring up to 200 samples per hour (11 seconds/fruit), compared to 30 samples with next day results when utilizing the Microwave Technique.
F-751 Kiwifruit Quality Meter offers the following accuracy (based on 1.5 x model RMSE):
- Dry Matter accuracy of +/- 0.5% for Gold3 variety; +/- 1.0% for Hayward variety; +/- 1.2% for Red19 variety.
- Sugar content (Brix) accuracy of +/- 0.6° for Gold3; +/- 1.9° for Hayward; +/- 1.2° for Red19
- Internal flesh color (Hue angle) accuracy of +/- 0.6° for Gold3; +/- 1.2° for Red19
Scott Trimble, Marketing Director, Felix Instruments said they are excited to highlight the latest phase in the advancement of the Kiwifruit Quality Meter and what this means for the industry.
The highly portable instrument is developed for simple and precise push-button operation, saving time and money, while avoiding losses related to destructive methods. It also works jointly with Fruit Maps, the free interactive harvest map application co-developed by Central Queensland University and Felix Instruments.
The instrument offers cost savings in fewer manpower, lab tests, and destroyed fruit, while at the same time reducing guesswork and providing more important data.
Breeders can use F-751 Kiwifruit Quality Meter to better determine how different applications of nutrients or herbicides affect fruit quality, while for distributors, the meter offers more visibility into the quality of incoming and outgoing product, laying the groundwork for better decision-making and cost savings.
