Corbana receives IGP for bananas from Costa Rica

Costa Rica is the first Latin American country to get IGP for bananas.

Corbana, the national banana of Costa Rica, has received the Europe wide accreditation IGP (Indication Geographique Protegee), received by the International Bureau of World Intellectual Property.

 
"Banano of Costa Rica" is the first IGP to be registered in Costa Rica as well as a first for bananas in Latin America.

Corbana IG says that this is important for international markets, particularly the European Union. The IGP informs consumers about the origin of the product and is a good indicator of quality, adding that the certification will be bring more value to Costa Rican products.
