Chilean citrus representatives meet importers, journalists and content creators at a workshop in Tokyo’s Roppongi district.
Chile is strengthening the presence of its lemons in Japan through a promotional workshop and a new publication created specifically for the Japanese market.
The Chilean Citrus Committee, part of Frutas de Chile, organised the event at a well-known bookshop in Tokyo’s Roppongi district. Importers, specialist journalists and social media creators attended the workshop, which was supported by ProChile. Chile’s agricultural and commercial attaché, Nury Disegni, also participated.
Sharing the story behind Chilean lemons
The workshop gave participants an opportunity to learn more about Chile’s lemon industry, discuss market developments and consider new ways to promote the fruit to Japanese consumers.
Frutas de Chile said the initiative focused on the quality, versatility and seasonal availability of Chilean lemons. It also aimed to strengthen relationships with importers and other partners in Japan, which remains an important market for Chilean citrus exporters.
During the event, the Citrus Committee launched a new guide titled Lemons from Chile: A Journey from Origin to the Table. The publication was developed for Japanese readers and explains how lemons are grown in Chile, as well as the sector’s quality standards, sustainability work and production seasons.
It also includes recipes showing how lemons can be used in different meals and consumption occasions.
Focus on quality and reliability
Monserrat Valenzuela, president of the Chilean Citrus Committee, said activities of this kind help the industry maintain close contact with Japanese importers, media professionals and content creators.
The committee wants Chilean lemons to be recognised for their consistent quality, traceability and reliable supply throughout the export season.
Frutas de Chile also highlighted the importance of explaining the origin of the product. By presenting the people, production methods and standards behind Chilean lemons, the organisation hopes to build consumer trust and create further business opportunities in Japan.
