The first logistical link between the Adriatic Sea and the Baltic Sea has just been inaugurated with the departure of the first train of the new intermodal service linking the port of Trieste (Italy) to the port of Kiel (Germany) and Gothenburg (Sweden) Connections for Malmö (Sweden) and Oslo (Norway).
Promoted by EKOL (the Turkish logistics operator, which recently acquired a majority stake in the EMT Molo VI terminal), this new service is intended for the transport of containers and semi-trailers, arrival and departure by sea from Turkey and Greece for the markets of the Baltic area.
By serving these new destinations, the service will allow to further increase the volumes treated by the 1st Italian port. The port of Trieste confirmed its position of No. 1 in 2016, processing 59.2 million tons of goods (+ 3.68%).
