Until the end of week 12 (March 27) of the 2021/2022 campaign, Peruvian fresh mango exports totaled 225.600 tons, registering an increase of 6.5% compared to the 211.900 tons shipped in the same period of the 2020/2021 campaign, according to the general manager of the Peruvian Association of Mango Producers and Exporters (APEM), Juan Carlos Rivera Ortega.
In the 2021/2022 campaign, fresh mangoes were exported by various routes: by sea, 206.000 tons; air, 13.000 tons, and land, 6.600 tons.
Ortega specified that at the end of this campaign, which will be in 2 or 3 weeks, shipments of said fruit would reach 235.000 tons, which would mean reaching the same record as in the 2019/2020 campaign, where 235.000 tons were exported.
In this campaign, exporters faced logistical problems, such as the lower frequency of shipping companies' trips, as well as the shortage of containers, which caused a redirection of shipments.
The main destinations were Europe (63% of the total), the United States (33%), and other markets (4%).
