The first shipment of the Mexican Hass avocado to Costa Rica was made last week, after having achieved the reopening of this market that had been closed for the last 7 years, according to local media.
The company Pura Fruta sent the first container of 22.040 kilos of Hass avocado to that destination.
From the Chamber of Exporters and Importers of Perishable Products of Costa Rica, they hope that imports will have a positive impact on the prices paid by final consumers.
Eduardo Ramirez, vice president of the Chamber, said that as the harvest progresses in Mexico and there is more avocado, the price will tend to decrease. He specified that since the restriction was lifted, until now, the price in the wholesale market has decreased 50%.
