Expanding areas and favorable climatic conditions will lead to an increase in the production of asparagus.
The asparagus season is expected to be very positive in the Antequera region (Andalusia) where the area has increased and will lead to more production.
The Horticultores El Torcal de Antequera cooperative, which accounts for about 90% of the region's total crop, plans to produce 850 000 kg of asparagus. This is an increase of 40% compared to last season.
Harvesting began somewhat late in the last week of February and is expected to last until June. Asparagus is mainly exported, to other European countries, Germany and France in particular, very few are marketed in Spain.
