Germany. Asparagus is the No. 1 vegetable in Germany in terms of cultivated area (23,000 hectares). Due to the cold weather, the 2018 season begins later than last year.
According to DBV (Deutschen Bauernverbandes), the association of German farmers, a growing offer of German asparagus is expected as early as the 2nd week of April.
In Germany, production last year totaled 131,000 tonnes of asparagus. The volume of imports is low and the country reaches a degree of self-sufficiency for asparagus of over 80%.
