Philibon melons are now laser marked
Philibon grave its brand name on the bark of melons with the help of a laser beam. This new technique allows to fight against fraud. Some customers took off the labels for checkout with a lower price, some retailers wrapped an ordinary melon with Philibon packaging.
Faced with these problems, the company Boyer decided to adopt the system, saw in Spain, laser marking. The machine investment is around EUR 120,000, the rate of conditioning has slowed down, but the protection of the brand image is enhanced.
From 12 000 tonnes of melons produced each year by 80 farms of the Southwest, the company Boyer selects only half to be sold under the brand Philibon. The work is done manually, and the sugar content of each piece is controlled.
Only melons destined for the French market are engraved for now. "This is a good long-term calculation, said Jean-Marc Boyer. This marking is the future of the brand and of the structure. This is a guarantee of credibility with consumers."
