Resumption of exports of bananas
FJ
In the Philippines, banana exports resume after the devastating typhoon.
In December, the typhoon Pablo had destroyed 14,000 hectares of banana plantations (our news of 6-Dec and 10-Dec). The province of Mindanao, one of the main production areas of the country, had been severely affected, and the banana trade was paralyzed.
The United States Department of Agriculture has given the green light for the resumption of exports of Cavendish bananas to the United States, in accordance with the standards of the protocol negotiated between the two countries. The first shipment should be carried out in April.
