African banana imports in Europe have declined

While the EU imported a volume 1.8% higher in 2018 than in the previous year, the original volume from "Africa" has decreased.
In 2018, the EU imported around 6.4 million tonnes of bananas (+ 1.8% compared to the previous year) according to provisional figures processed by the CIRAD economic research unit and based on EUROSTAT data. .
According to these preliminary figures, African banana exports to the EU reach 607 000 tonnes, a decrease of 7.6% compared to the volume exported the previous year.
Cameroon's exports fell by around 20% while those of Côte d'Ivoire remained stable. The best performance was achieved by Ghana's exports, which increased by 7% compared to the volumes shipped in 2017.
