Brussels and Moscow have signed an agreement that will allow controlling the levels of pesticide residues in vegetal products exported from the European Union to Russia destined to human consumption.
According to sources from the Community’s executive releasing the news, the aim of such memorandum is to “create ways of dialogue with Moscow when Russia would detect too high level of pesticide residues in imports according to its own legislation”. Actually in some cases Russia establishes lower levels of pesticides than the ones fixed by the European Union according to its harmonization arrangements.
The agreement’s negotiation was carried out “constantly advising with the Member states and the European exporters”, sources at the Commission stressed.
