LIVE from Fruit Logistica: New real-time trackers for safe cargo transportation
VU | Copeland
At Fruit Logistica 2022, Emerson showcased its new real-time trackers, the GO real-time 4G/5G global and global plus. These tools also leverage Cat-M, Low Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN) technology to guarantee real-time data for users transporting high-value products worldwide.
Due to a phase-down in the cellular industry in 2G and 3G networks, Emerson is offering reliable connectivity via new technologies such as Cat-M and NBIoT (narrow band IoT), which are derivatives of 4G LTE. The largest carriers have already developed extensive infrastructure to adapt these new networks enabling expansive growth of IoT applications. Emerson already cooperates with these carriers and works closely with their providers and users to guarantee an easy technology transition.
The new GO real-time 4G/5G global & global plus trackers are able to monitor in-transit conditions of cargo such as location, light, temperature and humidity for up to 3 months of continuous operation. Ultra-low temperatures (down to -80C) can be tracked with detachable temperature probes. To help provide optimal connectivity worldwide, the trackers have two SIM cards which can connect utilizing different modes (Cat-M, NBIoT, or GSM). The GO real-time 4G/5G global plus has extra battery capacity and the option to be configured with additional sensors such as CO2
Amy Childress, vice president marketing and sales, said that with the phase-out of older cellular networks and the growth of IoT technologies, it is extremely important that they leverage these new networks for customers. Whether they are transporting fresh produce, healthcare items or other cargo, Emerson’s technology and insights guarantee safety and quality of the shipment during transport.
