New challenges will shake our agricultural production models
FJ
International Forum on agriculture and climate change has just taken place in Paris under the FAO (United Nations Food and Agriculture), it is the first of a series of events leading up to the World Summit on Climate in December 2015.
"The model of agricultural production that prevails today is not adapted to the new challenges related to food security of the century" said Graziano da Silva, FAO Director-General.
"What now prevails is a production model that is not able to prevent land degradation and biodiversity loss -.Essential goods, especially for future generations."
This model needs to be reviewed must operate a complete turnaround. The systems need to be more sustainable.
"The Director-General of FAO drew attention to the "agro-ecology", an approach based on ecological theory to increase both productivity and retention capacity of natural resources in agricultural systems.
