Bananas exports to Europe

Start of banana exports from the port of Dos Bocas (Tabasco state) on the Gulf of Mexico.

The next week , a shipment from the port of Dos Bocas , will carry a volume of 3,400 tons of bananas to the EU. The Banana Growers Association (Asociación de Productores of Sierra de Platano Teapa ) provides that the 4 expected shipments from the port of Dos Bocas will total a volume of 13,600 tonnes of bananas.

These export volumes will decongest the domestic market according to the Association. In addition, a campaign is planned to generate an increase in domestic consumption, at the initiative of ASERCA ( Agencia de Servicios a la Comercialización y Desarrollo de Mercados Agropecuarios ) the Agency Marketing and agricultural market development services. The aim is to increase the consumption of bananas at least to 3 kilos per person per year. Currently consumption in the country is between 13 and 14 kilograms per capita per year.
