Peru: future world leader for pepper exports

Peru is already the leading papikra exporter in the world and could become the number one exporter of peppers and chili peppers, says the Association of Exporters (ADEX), if it can establish itself in the U.S. market.

In an interview with Peruvian media, ADEX predicts a good 2011-12 season, and if coordination among stakeholders is improved, entering markets with high potential will be possible.

The sector is already involved in various techniques for improving food safety for access to the United States. Universities are working to improve varieties and developments.
 
Peruvian pepper exports increased from 90 million USD in 2009 to 111,800,000 USD in 2010.
