Banana exports decreased by 22%

Colombia reported a drop in exports of bananas.

The country would pass from the first to the third place of bananas exporter in the world according to Fedeplátano, the national Federation of producers. The decline of 22% of banana exports last year which allows to Guatemala and to Ecuador to pass ahead of Colombia in the ranking of exporters.

The Federation invokes several factors to explain this situation, climate conditions, but also the lack of interest of the young generation to produce bananas.
