Bangladesh is a major vegetable producer and exporter that has seen considerable growth in its exports over the past 10 years. Ministry of Agriculture aims to increase export revenue from fresh produce (vegetables, fruits, processed spices, foods) to USD 2 billion.
According to local media, in Bangladesh, for the 1st time in the financial year 2020-21 the export revenue of the entire agricultural sector exceeded USD 1 billion. The Ministry of Agriculture aims to increase export revenue from fresh produce (vegetables, fruits, processed spices, foods) to USD 2 billion over the next 2 years.
To achieve this objective, the government has set up a program in order to be able to develop exports. Thus at the international airport located near the capital, a scanner as well as a specific door will be reserved for fresh agricultural products. Further investments are planned in agricultural research, irrigation, improvement of transport and storage systems.
