Citrus production in the northern hemisphere for the 2022-23 season is expected to reach 25.9 million tonnes, or -13% compared to the previous season (Photo: fao.org).
For the 2022-23 season, as forecast by WCO (World Citrus Organisation) and based on data from Egypt, Greece, Israel, Italy, Morocco, Spain, Tunisia, Turkey and the United States.
WCO (World Citrus Organisation) estimates that citrus production in the northern hemisphere for the 2022-23 season should reach 25,958,275 tonnes, or -13% compared to the previous season.
.Oranges: production should reach 13,995,754 tonnes, i.e. -11.79% compared to the previous season
. Easy peelers: production should reach 7,176,116 tonnes, i.e. -13.32% compared to the previous season
.Lemons: production should reach 4,017,362 tons, i.e. -15.70% compared to the previous season
.Grapefruit: production should reach 769,043 tonnes, or -16.88% compared to the previous season.
EU: expected variations of -15.09% for Spain and -20.97% for Italy but variation of +10.83% for Greece.
Outside the EU: forecast variations of -33% for Morocco, -27.24% for Turkey, -17.12% for Tunisia, and variations of +0.40% for Israel and +8.24% for Egypt.
USA: according to USDA estimates (for the states of Arizona, California, Florida, Texas), citrus production should decrease by 5.16% compared to the previous season.
