Turkish Hazelnuts: End of the 2016-2017 season

According to the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Hazelnuts and Hazelnut products Exporters Union from the Black Sea, the export of hazelnuts for the period beginning the 1st of September 2016 and ending the 31st of August 2017 is almost 236 000 tonnes of shelled hazelnuts valued at USD 1,882,254,000. This export is 5.6% lower in quantity and 17.4% in value than in the 2015-2016 season.

Turkey is by far the world's leading producer and exporter of hazelnuts. As usual, it was the European countries that were the biggest consumers of Turkish hazelnuts, followed by the overseas countries.

But while the figures have just been published, producers are already concerned about the price of hazelnuts of the upcoming season which begins tomorrow.
