Northern France heads the field in chicory production
MD
With 1.8 million tonnes of potatoes and nearly 228,000 tonnes of fresh vegetables, Nord-Pas de Calais is one of France's most important regions for vegetable production.
Its chicory production leads the global market with a harvest of 140,000 tonnes annually. Spain, Eastern Europe and Russia are the key markets for producers in northern France.
At their joint stand, the 27 exhibitors are also presenting onions, carrots, apples and pears, lettuces and soya bean sprouts. Another focus is on cooling and packaging systems, along with the two French ports Dunkirk – the country's key port of transhipment for fruit – and Boulogne-sur-Mer.
