Ripening technology as innovative solution to increase effectiveness of business: Good Views and Interko case study
The one of the strongest in the wholesale fresh produce industry throughout Hong Kong since 1982, Good Views established latest technology ripening facility for banana, mango, avocado and kiwi to increase effectiveness of business.
Met at Asia Fruit Logistica in Hong Kong Mr. CK Lai, Good Views Director shares with us: “We see innovation in wholesale fresh produce industry as the only key to be differentiated by competitors. Our experienced team manipulates temperature, ethylene concentration and carbon oxide levels to ensure all fruits are conditioned to meet client requirements and allows fruits to remain fresh.”
Being among the only 3 ripening providers in Hong Kong, Good views delegated development of ripening rooms to Interko, the Dutch manufacturer and installer of cost-effective and low-maintenance ripening rooms for fresh fruit.
Mr. Chris Maat, managing partner of Interko exclusively introduced us new ripening rooms installed in new Good Views 7 stores facility located at Tsing Yi in Hong Kong. He explains: “Ripening rooms were individually developed for Good Views with special temperature, setting to fit different produce, such as banana, mango, avocado, kiwi and stone fruit. The main aim was to make this facility to be accessible via on-line supervising system, monitored 24 hour 7 days and supported with an automatic alarm system to deviate any temperature from the pre-established range.”
“Interko is the first company to manufacture a ripening room fan that achieves an energy consumption level below 100 watts per pallet at full airflow, which is fantastically low,” reveals Chris Maat. “This development ensures considerable cost savings for our customers by reducing energy usage and enables to significantly increase the shelf like of fresh fruits.”
Mr CK Lai adds: “Such Interko approach to ripening results in more flexibility and reduction of food waste. Fully-integrated Interko Smart ripening control system allows for precision ripening and monitoring of the ripening process to a degree that has not previously been possible. At the moment we are actively using ripening for banana, mango and avocado. However we plan to put on a track kiwi and papaya ripening.”
