Low forecast for the exports

Ukrainian Minister for Agriculture gave the first estimations of exports for the 2010/2011 campaign.

Ukraine will export 40,000 tons of vegetables, melons and gourds in the 2010/11 marketing year, which is quite a low figure, Ukrainian Agriculture Minister Mykola Prysiazhniuk has said.

According to statistics, the country grows 7.5 million tons of vegetables, melons and gourds, and the consumption fund is 5.4 million tons, which is 69%.

About one million tons is spent on cattle fattening. This is one of the options for the improper use of vegetables, melons and gourds, and, of course, the loss, due to the absence of high-quality storage facilities, ranges between 1 million tons and 1.2 million tons," Prysiazhniuk said.

"Another big problem is the question of domestic logistics," he said, adding that it in fact does not exist in the country.
