Iran plans to increase its port capacity

In the south of the country, the port of Bandar Abbas, renamed Shahid Rajaee SEZ, will be the beneficiary of the most important investment projects.
The volume of goods loaded / unloaded in the ports of Iran has increased by 9.4% per year and multiple investment projects aim to further strengthen the country's port capacity.
A report by the Ports and Maritime Organization of Iran (PMO) shows that the volume of goods loaded / unloaded in Iranian ports exceeded 118.87 million tonnes (+ 9.4%) in the first 10 months of the Iranian calendar year, non-oil products representing 79.95 million tons.
The annual total is about 210 million tonnes, of which 4.86-5 million TEU (Twenty-foot Equivalent, 20-foot unit) containers. PMO announces increased port capacity for containers. Various investment projects, of which 3 are in progress in the south of the country, will be completed in early 2020. The total port capacity will reach 250 million tons annually.
