The cold also hit the south of Spain and could affect the amount of lettuce available in the coming weeks.
The cold wave that reigns in Europe has affected both Spain and threatens the production of salads.
In recent nights frost hit regions of Murcia, Alicante and Almeria. Lower temperatures caused an interruption in the development of salads and if this continues a ruined production.
Growers are concerned that freezing by delaying the development of
salads affects the quantity of goods available in the coming weeks.
In 2010 Spain exported 584,018 tons of lettuce, including 381,027 tonnes of iceberg lettuce. Of the total volume exported, 432,462 tons came from the region of Murcia. Germany and the United Kingdom are the main recipients of these lettuces.
