The english apple Rubens is grown exclusively in Kent
Tesco will be stocking the English apple Rubens, Norman Collett Ltd will be supplying Tesco, The Co-operative and Booths from this month.
This will be the second season the variety has been available. Business development manager for Collett's, Sarah Calcutt said "Rubens exceeded our expectation in it's first year and we have increased production to over three million English Rubens apples for this season's crop, up from 800,000 in 2008."
"The unique flavour and crunch is exactly what British consumers want, as well as being grown in Kent, thereby keeping the food miles down, and we believe that 2009 will be another great year for Rubens."
All Rubens growers are under the UK Little Red Tractor assurance scheme, and are grown exclusively in Kent, UK.
