In New Zealand the 2023 harvest season is approaching and professionals in the sector expect good quality and good size fruit.
According to NZAPI (New Zealand Apples & Pears Incorporated) estimates this year export volumes will be similar to last year, with a total of approximately 20.4 million TCE (Tray Carton Equivalents = 18.6kg) , or approximately 379,440 tonnes.
However, according to Terry Meikle, Managing Director of NZAPI, some varieties will see a reduction in their volumes. Like the traditional varieties intended for the EU market such as Braeburn (-15%) or Pink Lady and Jazz. Or other varieties like Fuji, NZ Queen, NZ Rose which should also see a decrease in their volumes.
On the contrary, further volume growth is expected for branded varieties like Rockit, Envy and Dazzle.
