In Cuba, more and more pineapple plantations and increasing production.
In the aim to meet the needs of the food industry and the demands of the international market, Cuban producers are expanding their pineapple plantations and increasing harvested volumes.
In the region of Ciego de Ávila, affected by hurricane Irma, which had damaged plantations and crops, new areas are being cultivated. Currently, the province already has 1,460 hectares planted varieties "MD-2" and "Española Roja" and could count 2,000 hectares this year.
The region favors pineapple "MD2" for its high production, for the size and flavor of the fruits. Exports are mainly to Spain, Italy and France.
Tourism also provides another important outlet. The marketing of fresh pineapples and canned pineapples is growing strongly in Cuba's main tourist centers, which are increasingly popular with tourists.
