Taiwan had decided to intensify its policy of diversifying its exports after the Chinese bans which affected Taiwanese fish products, pineapples and citrus fruits.
According to the COA (Council of Agriculture), fruit shipments to Japan from January to October 2022 accounted for 56.6% of Taiwan's total exports. Largely overtaking China, Japan is now the largest export market for Taiwanese fruit.
While previously Taiwan depended on the Chinese market alone, the policy of export diversification has made it possible to find other markets which have increased their demands for Taiwanese products such as Japan, the United States, Australia, Canada, the Philippines and Indonesia.
