Europe: growth of +1% for apple production and +20% for pear production

Prognosfruit 2022, the annual conference that brings together apple and pear professionals was recently held in Belgrade, Serbia. The event was an opportunity to unveil the forecasts for the next harvests in Europe (EU-27 and United Kingdom).
The 47th edition of Prognosfruit, the annual conference organized by WAPA (World Apple and Pear Association) took place at the beginning of August in Belgrade, Serbia. Prognosfruit 2022 welcomed more than 200 international representatives from the apple and pear sector. As in previous editions, the forecasts for the next harvests in Europe (EU-27 and United Kingdom) have been unveiled.
The 2022/23 apple harvest for the European Union (27 member countries) and the United Kingdom is estimated at 12,167,887 tonnes. That is a slight increase (+1%) compared to 2021 and an increase of +9% compared to the average for 2019-2020-2021. Poland, with an estimated production of 4,495,000 tons (+5%) is the leading producer country, followed by Italy with 2,150,000 tons (+5%), then by France with 1,468,000 tons ( +6%) and Germany with 1,067,000 tonnes (+6%).
The 2022/23 pear harvest for the European Union (27 member countries) and the United Kingdom is estimated at 2,077,000 tonnes. That is an increase of +20% compared to last year and an increase of +5 compared to the average over 3 years. Italy should reach a production of around 473,690 tonnes and France 137,000 tonnes.
