Peruvian aguaymanto exports reached $2,6 million in 2020

In 2020, Peruvian aguaymanto exports totaled 287 tons, worth $2,655,000, of which 240.79 tons were organic and the remaining 46.21 tons were conventional.
60 % of the product's exports went to the United States, the Netherlands and Germany, being the Huánuco region the leader in production, according to the Aguaymanto Market Analysis carried out by Sierra y Selva Exportadora (SSE).
Almost 95 % of the organic product that was exported was of a dehydrated type, accompanied with other berries, granola or nuts and was basically exported to the US, Germany, the Netherlands, Japan, Canada and Israel, totaling 86 % of exports of this type.
At the moment, the aguaymanto has good promotional opportunities as a healthy berry, so it is necessary to work on enhancing the productive capacity by regions and the promotion methods to increase its consumption in the domestic and international market, in order to benefit thousands of small producers of Family Farming dedicated to its cultivation.
According to Midagri, the world organic food market reaches a total income of almost $50 billion, with a sustained annual increase of 10.3 % and with a tendency to increase in the future.
In international terms, Colombia is considered the largest producer and exporter of aguaymanto, followed by South Africa, Kenya, Zimbabwe, India, Australia, New Zealand, England, Peru and Ecuador. The main destinations for organic fruit are the USA, the Netherlands and Germany.
The aguaymanto is a fruit from Peru, which is grown in the areas of Amazonas, Áncash, Apurímac, Ayacucho, Arequipa, Cusco, Cajamarca, Junín, Huánuco, Huancavelica, Lima, Lambayeque, Pasco and Moquegua. It is consumed fresh, dehydrated or processed, and has sedative, diuretic, and antirheumatic properties, and is rich in vitamins A and C.
