Strong imports and sustained prices should lead to an increase in the Ukrainian production for next season.
In Ukraine, the volume of potatoes imports reached a record in 2010.
According to the Ukrainian Club of Agrarian Business (UCAB), the country imported nearly 20,000 tons of potatoes and 6,000 tons were exported only to Russia.
The average price has remained high over the last 4 month. According to UCAB, the increase reached 65% between 2009 and 2010, which makes potato production profitable.
These favorable market conditions should lead to an increase in cultivation and production of potatoes for the new season.
