The summit had an extensive exchange of views and innovative practices, with participants from 91 countries.
With nearly 2,800 participants from 91 countries, the International Summit of Cooperatives 2012 highlighted the growing importance of the cooperative model for the global economy.
The International Summit of Cooperatives 2012 was held from October 8 to 11 in the city of Quebec in Canada. To ensure their full potential, cooperatives had to maintain their competitiveness, improve their performance, innovate and remain relevant to meet new needs

A Joint Declaration was adopted. The Declaration emphasises the importance of cooperatives in economic well-being and social development of individuals and communities. It will be presented to the General Assembly of the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) in Manchester, England and then sent to the United Nations.
The organisers plan to hold a second summit in 2014.
