The asparagus season in Mexico was predicted to be particularly early, but weather conditions delayed growth and this season will in fact be a normal season.
A cold spell has slowed the growth of asparagus but Mexican professionals believe that the volumes will be comparable to those of last year. The volumes will increase, large quantities are expected from week 6 or 7, the peak is expected between week 8 and 11.
In 2017 Mexico produced 245,681 tonnes of asparagus, mainly in the states of Sonora, Guanajuato and Baja California. Over 90% of Mexican production is exported, mainly to the United States and to a lesser extent in Europe and Japan.
