Producers from the Ica Valley export blueberries to Chile for the first time

For the first time, producers from the Ica Valley, Peru, achieved certification for blueberry exports to the Chilean market, as reported by the National Agrarian Health Service of Peru (Senasa).

The first container included 7.500 boxes, weighing 14.4 tons. The fruit will be commercialized in the province of San Antonio del Valparaíso. The shipment was made by the Agroindustrial Beta company.

The blueberry production of this region has achieved recognition in markets of the US, China, Germany, Spain, Belgium, the United Kingdom, Thailand, Hong Kong, and others.

In order to guarantee a safe and reliable certification in the export of blueberries, Senasa is in charge of sanitary and phytosanitary certification of places of production, shipment inspections, verification of Integrated Pest Management, Packing Plants, post-entry quarantine in crops, among others.

These actions are necessary to comply with the demanding protocols established between Senasa and the National Phytosanitary Protection Organizations of the countries receiving the product.

Today, the Ica region has 1085.88 hectares of blueberries certified by Senasa. The main producing and exporting areas are Santiago, Pisco and Pampas de Villacurí.

The main varieties are: Ventura, Biloxi, Emerald, Magica, Bella, Bonita, Dew, Snowchaser, Springhigh, Ozblu Raquelle.
