A small but active import market could offer a new route for Indian mango varieties.
India has held its first mango promotion events in Iceland, presenting four premium varieties — Dasheri, Chausa, Langra and Kesar — to local importers, business representatives and officials.
The events were organised by the Indian Embassy in Reykjavik and APEDA on June 24 in Reykjavik and June 25 in Akureyri, North Iceland.
According to PIB, the initiative was aimed at introducing Indian mangoes to Icelandic buyers and exploring new export opportunities. The programme also highlighted India’s mango production, quality assurance work, market access efforts and international promotion activities.
Iceland currently imports mangoes mainly from Thailand, Brazil, Cambodia, Ghana and Peru. In 2025, the country imported mangoes worth around USD 3.3 million, including about USD 1 million from Thailand.
PIB said local consumers showed interest in mangoes, especially for smoothies, desserts and fruit salads. This suggests room for Indian suppliers to test the market with varieties that offer strong flavour, aroma and eating quality.
