The first agreements should lead to free trade in the coming months.
The two countries have signed a preliminary agreement to expand their trade.
Chilean Minister of Agriculture Luis Mayol has signed an agreement in Bangkok with his Thai counterpart Theera Wongsamut. This initial agreement is expected to boost trade between the two countries and lead to a free trade agreement (FTA) in the coming months.
The minister stressed
that the two countries would not be in competition as they have different products, grown in different climates and in 2 hemispheres.
Thailand will be the 60th country to sign an FTA with Chile. These negotiations demonstrates the increasing interest of Chile in South Asia, after agreements with China, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia and Vietnam.
