Indian imports of almonds will reach 80,000 tons for 2012-2013
India will increase its imports of almonds to meet growing demand.
Imports of almonds should increase by 7.2% for 2012-2013 and reach a record figure of 80,000 tons. In 2011-2012 the country imported 74,600 tons of almonds while production reached only from 1,100 to 1,200 tons per year.
To meet growing demand, India imports almonds from the United States (72%), Australia, China, Iran, Syria, Afghanistan. Other less traditional suppliers in the Indian market represents 10% of its imports (Italy, Malaysia, Thailand, South Korea, Japan, Taiwan and South Africa).
