Presentation of 4 new apple varieties 100% Made in France. More than 1000 people welcomed in the orchards.
The BLUE WHALE producers opened their orchards to the public on October 19th and 20th for the "Vergers en Fête" operation and welcomed more than 1000 visitors.
The group of BLUE WHALE cooperatives, leading producer and exporter of apples in France, has been mobilizing for the last 3 years on the occasion of this operation to share the know-how of its producers. Educational and fun initiative, the operation "Vergers en Fête" offers visitors to discover the life of an orchard, the secrets of producing a good apple and its tasting.
On the occasion of this 3rd edition of Vergers en Fête, BLUE WHALE presented 4 new apple varieties 100% Made in France:
- Kissabel® a surprising apple with colorful flesh. The first orchards were planted in the Loire Valley. The first crop, expected in 2019, BLUE WHALE is expected to produce about 1,000 tonnes within 5 years.
- Rockit® the smallest apple in the world, 5 to 6 centimeters and 80 to 90 grams. The perfect apple for snacks.
- Blue Reine® a new two-color variety, tastefully close to Queen Reinette, it is crisp, juicy and very well preserved.
- Candine®, the fruit of a cross between Fuji and Ariane, it is naturally resistant to scab. Strong visual appeal, crisp and juicy.
