By 2022/23, world apple production is set to fall by around 4.3 million tonnes, which will lead to a drop in exports of over 1 million tonnes.
According to the latest FAS (Foreign Agricultural Service) circular from the USDA, the US Department of Agriculture, world apple production for 2022/23 is now estimated at 78.4 million tonnes.
This is mainly due to weather-related losses in China, where production is expected to fall by almost 5 million tonnes to a total of 41 million tonnes. This drop in production should lead to a -20% variation in Chinese exports, which should reach only 770,000 tonnes.
On a global scale, exports are expected to fall by around 1 million tonnes to 5.5 million. The lowest volume since 2010/11.
