In Austria the apple stock level is the 2nd lowest in the last 7 years, 12 200 tonnes last year and 20 000 tonnes this year.
In Austria apple stocks, already low because of a decline in production last year, have melted to just 20,000 tonnes in early May. This low level of stocks has resulted in an increase in imports.
According to the data processed by AgrarMarktAustria the Austrian apple stock was only 20,000 tonnes at the beginning of May. In normal years of production the stock totals about 57 000 tons at the same date.
The availability of Austrian apples will be short and imported apples will constitute the bulk of the supply until the next harvest. The 1st early varieties should arrive on the market by mid-August. Without the vagaries of climate until then, forecasts promise a strong apple crop in Austria.
